Materials Needed
- Cabochon stones or shell pieces (1-2 inches)
- 40-50 bugle beads in metallic shades
- Seed beads in black, gold, or bronze (5 grams each)
- Metal filigree findings or bead caps
- Beading needle and thread (nylon or FireLine)
- Embroidery backing fabric (linen, felt, or canvas)
- Small embroidery hoop
- Scissors and fabric glue
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Place your chosen cabochon on the fabric and secure it using bead embroidery techniques or a small bezel of seed beads. This will form the spider’s body.
Step 2: Attach a decorative filigree piece or bead cap just above the cabochon to represent the spider’s head. Make sure it’s centered and firmly stitched down.
Step 3: For the legs, string together bugle beads with tiny seed beads at the joints. Then stitch each leg onto the fabric, angling them outward evenly on both sides.
Step 4: Continue adding legs until the spider has eight. You can also adjust the shape so they curve naturally, giving your spider a lifelike but artistic appearance.
