How to Make Beaded Keychains with Personality

by Sasha Ridley

These little charms feel like talismans, each one carrying a spark of joy in its colors and patterns. An eye to watch over you, a heart stitched with love, a lion’s face glowing in gold.

They’re tiny worlds captured in beads, meant to dangle and travel with you wherever you go.

Lightweight yet full of character, they turn the everyday act of grabbing your keys into a moment touched by art and care.

Materials Needed

  • Seed beads in assorted bright colors (5-10 grams each)
  • Small pieces of felt or stiff fabric (3”×3” each)
  • Beading needle and thread
  • Keychain rings with clasps
  • Scissors
  • Optional: fabric glue for backing

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Cut out a small felt piece in your chosen shape (heart, flower, eye, etc.) and sketch the basic outline.

Step 2: Start beading along the edges to define the shape, then fill in the interior with rows of colorful beads.

Step 3: Add special details such as contrast colors for eyes, petals, or lettering like “LOVE.” Then use sequins or crystals for extra sparkle if you like.

Step 4: Attach a second layer of felt to the back for stability, stitching or gluing it securely.

Step 5: Finally, sew or glue a loop of fabric at the top, then attach it to a metal keyring with a clasp.

Notes:

Because these are small projects, they’re great for using up leftover beads. Mixing textures like matte and glossy beads can make each charm stand out even more.
