Step by step Guide to Make a Tropical Hibiscus Bead Embroidery Brooch

by Sasha Ridley

This hibiscus feels like a flower caught at its brightest moment, frozen in beads so it never fades.

When you stitch petal after petal, it’s like weaving a sunset into your fabric such as orange glowing like fire, pink bursting from the heart, and yellow shining as the final spark.

Once pinned on, it transforms a plain shirt into a canvas for joy. It doesn’t just accessorize; it whispers of warm days, seaside breezes, and the kind of bold beauty only nature inspires.

Materials Needed

  • Seed beads in orange, pink, and yellow (size 11/0, 10-15 grams each)
  • Beading needle (size 10 or 12)
  • Strong thread (Nymo or FireLine, 2-3 yards)
  • Felt or stiff backing fabric (3”×3” piece)
  • Embroidery hoop (optional)
  • Small brooch pin backing
  • Scissors and fabric glue

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Cut a piece of felt slightly larger than your flower design. Then sketch or trace the hibiscus shape directly onto the felt with a fabric pen.

Step 2: Begin with the center of the flower. You can also use pink beads to create a circular cluster, working outward in small stitched rows to form the flower’s heart.

Step 3: Move to the petals. Use orange beads, stitching them in curved lines that follow the natural shape of each petal. This gives your flower a lifelike texture.

Step 4: Add the stamen by stitching a short line of white beads with a yellow cluster at the tip. This detail brings your hibiscus to life.

Step 5: Once the embroidery is complete, carefully cut around the flower, leaving a tiny felt border.

Step 6: Glue or stitch a small piece of felt to the back to hide threads. Now, attach the brooch pin securely using thread or fabric glue.

Step 7: Let it dry fully if glue was used. Now, pin your hibiscus onto your outfit and enjoy the splash of color it brings.

Notes:

If you want more dimension, try blending two shades of orange in the petals. It adds depth and makes the hibiscus shimmer even more when the light catches it.
