Here’s how it works: “Clients who wear contacts say they’ve gotten used to taking them out by using the pads of their fingers rather than the tips,” says Schell.

Your nails can sometimes dictate what you wear on any given day. “I definitely avoid wearing lace, silk, knit, and other delicate fabrics as you can snag them [with long nails],” says Nguyen. However, once you’ve gotten used to the length, this can change. “If you’re used to having length, then it becomes second nature,” she claims. In either case, you’ll have to be cautious when there’s a chance of snagging, so Nguyen suggests adding a few minutes to your schedule for the process.

How to Maintain The Health Of Your Long Nails

This is also true for regular manicures, but the same rule applies: Maintaining healthy nails will allow you to maneuver the world with super-long tips. “Water and chemicals can cause dryness, chipping, and lifting [of your manicure],” says Nguyen. Maintain your nail beds by applying cuticle oil on a daily basis and purchasing rubber gloves for cleaning dishes and around the house. Aside from that, practice patience, and you’ll soon come to appreciate the long nail life.

For the first time, wearing extra-long nails can make typing feel strange — on both a phone and a keyboard. It takes some getting used to, but there is a technique that the pros swear by. “I generally use the balls of my fingertips rather than my actual nails to type,” says Schell, who notes this tends to work better (as opposed to using the tips of your nails when you’ve got short lengths, she says). So, when texting, use your finger pads. Is there a bonus? When your nails make contact with your phone screen or keyboard, you may hear a satisfying clickety-clacking sound, which is a common form of ASMR.
